Located in the heart of Belo Horizonte, this favela is home to a population of 25,000 inhabitants, mainly of African and indigenous descent. A city within the city where the artist Dagson Silva, a native of this place, opened the doors for us. Artivista concluded its action by organizing a guided tour, to which people from outside the favela were invited. Often portrayed in the media for its violence, Morro das Pedras then appeared in a new light. Convinced that art can be an emancipatory force for its residents, the association has helped change the usual perception of them.
