Dagson
A Brazilian artist with the street as his canvas, Dagson grew up in Belo Horizonte and
started painting on the walls of the Morros Das Pedras district, one of the largest favelas
of the city. His interests, search and themes revolve around Brazilian popular culture and
social realities. He favours dialogue with people at the place where they live, an approach
allowing him to develop a sense of belonging in his use of public space. Appropriation
stands at the crossroads of popular knowledge and academic experience. As an artivist,
Dagson is actively working, along with local community actors, on the development of
sociocultural projects designed with and for favelas inhabitants in situations of social
vulnerability.
