Criola

Criola is a Brazilian artist whose graffiti colourfully adorn the walls of her native city Belo
Horizonte where they make a stand for the Black protest movement. She sees graffiti as a
powerful weapon in the fight against discrimination while also being a means of expression
providing passers-by with a resistance to urban chaos and the gloom of daily routine, all
through the colours of life itself. Depicting a black woman is a permanent feature in her
work, the fruit of daily experience. Criola looks at every single woman as individually
representing beauty, power and sensitivity.
